Rilis Portable GIS Version 2

Archaeogeek.com mengumumkan rilis Portable GIS Versi 2 hari ini. Versi baru ini hadir dengan self-contained installer, yang paling up-to-date dan merupakan versi yang paling stabil dari semua paket sebelumnya, tersedia juga sebuah control panel untuk mengakses paket GIS Software yang disertakan. Untuk menjalankan Portable GIS ini diperlukan ruang kosong sebesar 1.3 GB di USB Flash Disk Anda.


GIS Software yang disertakan meliputi:

  • Desktop GIS packages QGIS (with GRASS plugin), uDIG and gvSIG,
  • FWTools (GDAL and OGR toolkit)
  • XAMPPlite (Apache2/MySQL5/Php5),
  • PostgreSQL (version 8.4)/Postgis (version 1.4),
  • Mapserver, OpenLayers, Tilecache, Featureserver, and Geoserver web applications.

Seluruh GIS Software tersebut adalah open source, tetapi masing-masing komponen memiliki lisensi terpisah. Beberapa komponen telah diubah  untuk membuat versi portable ini. Harap dicatat bahwa source installer ini  adalah 500MB, dan memerlukan USB Flash Disk minimal 2 GB untuk menginstal. Proses instalasi memerlukan waktu lama karena keterbatasan yang ada pada kecepatan  USB dan kompresi yang besar diperlukan untuk menjaga source installer ini sekecil mungkin, walaupun terhitung masih cukup besar.
