Koneksi ArcGIS – PostGIS Via zigGIS

Kemampuan MapInfo Profesional versi 10 yang akan segera rilis untuk mengakses PostGIS secara langsung merupakan salah satu fitur unggulan yang diberikan software GIS dari Pitney Bowes ini. Apakah ArcGIS mampu melakukan koneksi dengan PostGIS?

PostGIS adalah  PostgreSQL server yang “spatially enables”,  yang dimanfaatkan sebagai  backend spatial database untuk geographic information systems (GIS), seperti halnya  ESRI SDE atau Oracle Spatial extension. Berbeda dengan dua server database yang disebutkan terakhir, PostGIS merupakan software open source dibawah GNU General Public License.

Untuk melakukan koneksi antara ArcGIS dengan PostGIS, dibutuhkan sebuah ekstension tambahan, yaitu zigGIS. Dengan zigGIS ArcGIS Desktop mampu secara langsung melakukan koneksi dengan spatial data yang tersimpan dalam PostGIS.  Spatial Data tersebut bisa ditampilkan dalam kanvas ArcMap, di analisa dan di edit dalam ArcMap tersebut.

Fitur yang paling menarik adalah kemampuan untuk melakukan multi user editing PostGIS data dari ArcMap menggunakan fungsi editing yang tersedia di ArcMap.

zigGIS tersedia di Obtuse Software, dibandrol pada harga US $279.
