Remote Sensing and GIS Conference, May 5 - 6, 2008, Kupang, Indonesia

As part of Charles Darwin Universities AUSAID funded Public Service Linkages Program a GIS and Remote sensing Conference will be held at Nusa Cendana University in Kupang 5-6 May.
The conference will act as a forum to discuss the following:
(i) current applications, projects and research in NTT using remote sensing and GIS technology;
(ii) the development of formal and informal data and skill sharing networks;
(iii) protocols for collecting and archiving data.

ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack 5 sudah tersedia
ESRI telah merilis ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack 5 pada 26 maret 2008. Beberapa perbaikan dan penambahan fungsi baru terdapat di service pack yang ke-5 ini melengkapi service pack sebelumnya.

Berikut saya coba menyajikan list program GIS Open Source. Software GIS gratis yang saya review ini adalah yang menyediakan data creation, editing dan analysis kompleks/sederhana atau export ke format file lainnya. Review ini juga tidak menyertakan GIS program yang spesific pada aplikasi tertentu dan bukan pada penggunaan GIS secara umum atau program GIS yang digunakan untuk analisis tertentu.
ArcGIS Explorer/Google Earth/Worldwind tidak disertakan dalam review dan juga kategori Geostatistical software dan image analysis software (aerial and satellite dikarenakan alasan diatas. Review ini menggunakan urutan abjad, bukan berdasarkan keunggulan atau kelemahan dari program GIS Open Source tersebut.

ArcGIS 9.3 Beta telah di rilis pada 12 Maret 2008. Versi full version-nya diharapkan akan launching pada akhir 2008 ini. Beberapa perbaikan dan peningkatan diantaranya adalah pada ArcGIS Desktop, saat ini sudah support Windows Vista, selain XP dan Windows Server 2003. Microsoft sendiri telah me-launching Windows Server 2008, namun ESRI tidak menyebutkan bahwa ArcGIS 9.3 bisa digunakan di Windows Server 2008.

Pencarian di Google dengan kata kunci ” Tutorial ArcGIS ” selalu saja menemukan tutorial tersebut berbahasa asing (English), sedangkan kebutuhan mereka yang mencari adalah dalam bahasa Indonesia.
